Patients
In recognition of the substantial costs involved in travelling abroad to attend an international conference, TIF makes available a number of travel grants (sponsorships) to help as many patients as possible make the journey to Berlin.
The patient grants are intended to cover the travel and accommodation costs of participating patients. All patients from the European Union member states (EU-27) as well as candidate countries (Croatia, FYROM and Turkey) and Albania are eligible to apply for sponsorship.
The award of grants is decided by the TIF Board of Directors based on specific criteria, including balanced geographical participation and previous attendance of TIF events, with preference given to lower-resource countries and those where an active thalassaemia/sickle cell patients’ movement is just emerging. The personal motivation, commitment and activity level of the applicants is also taken into consideration.

Health professionals
While TIF as a patient-oriented organisation wishes to focus its sponsorship efforts on patients, there are also a limited number of grants (sponsorships) available for health professionals, to cover travel and accommodation costs. Preference is given to lower-resource countries and more recent EU member states. Other criteria such as personal interest and commitment, previous attendance of TIF’s events and number/type of patients treated are also considered.

Applicants from outside the European Union
Applicants resident outside the European Union (with the exception of EU candidate countries and Albania) are not eligible to apply for sponsorship for the 2nd Pan-European Conference. We would invite you to apply for the next regional or international conference near to your country.
