Launching of a new International Award for Thalassaemia

The 12th International Conference on Thalassaemia and the Haemoglobinopathies and the 14th TIF International Conference for Patients and Parents also provided an excellent framework for the launching of a new award for thalassaemia- the Sheikh Sultan International Award for Thalassaemia. This new and prestigious award proposed by His Royal Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, son of the President of the United Arab Emirates, is a highly significant award that will be presented every two years to local and international groups, individuals and/or institutions who are actively involved and provide significant contribution in the areas of research, support, prevention and control of thalassaemia. The awardees will be announced during the biennial international thalassaemia conferences organised by the Thalassaemia International Federation, whereas the actual award ceremony will be held in Abu Dhabi, home of His Highness.
