The International Alliance of Patients’ Organizations (IAPO) is a global alliance representing patients of all nationalities across all disease areas and promoting patient-centred healthcare around the world. IAPO’s mission is to make the patient the focus of healthcare in every country, by realizing active partnerships with patients organizations, advocating internationally on healthcare policy in order to influence health agendas and policies on the national, regional and international level, and building cross-sector alliances in order to work collaboratively with like-minded medical and health professionals, policy makers, academics, researchers and industry representatives. Thalassaemia International Federation (TIF), being an patient-driven organisation, is a member of IAPO and TIF’s goals overlap with those of IAPO in the area of patients’ rights and making patients’ voices heard on the national and international level.
IAPO has produced the following policy statements:
- Health Literacy (June 2002)
- Patient Involvement (May 2005)
- IAPO Declaration on Patient-Centred Healthcare (February 2006)
- Patient Information (October 2009)
