The European Platform for Patients’ Organizations, Science and Industry (EPPOSI) is an EU patient-led partnership between patients' organisations, science and industry, founded in 1994 for the exchange of information and discussion of policies in EU human healthcare. EPPOSI's primary mission is to establish a strong European alliance of patients' organisations, academic science and industry, jointly working on healthcare policies towards treatment and prevention of serious diseases. TIF being an international non-governmental organisation dealing with serious rare diseases (thalassaemia and sickle cell disease), with networks of patients and health professionals is most regions of the world, and a strong belief that there is strength in unity, is in close collaboration with EPPOSI in order to strengthen its voice using EPPOSI’s influence in Europe.
Some of the health-related policies focused on and promoted by EPPOSI include:
- Development of new diagnostics, treatments, and prevention for life-threatening and chronically-debilitating diseases
- Access for patients to beneficial treatment and diagnosis
- Research and funding to create innovative medicines for unmet medical needs
- Dialogue about new biomedical technologies in healthcare, in particular with regard to benefits, safety, regulatory oversight, and ethical, legal and social issues
- Factors affecting the supply and distribution of medicinal products, in vitro and in vivo diagnostics, medical genetic testing services and medical devices in the EU
- Providing patients with information and counselling about all of these
