The European Public Health Alliance (EPHA) is a network of non-governmental and other non-profit organisations working in the field of public health in Europe. It is both a public health platform and a public health network. It acts as a resource of targeted, tailored and filtered information which aims to empower members and the wider constituency. It acts also as an advocate (a channel of communication to voice concerns arising from the public health sector) and as a platform that provides a rallying point for active public health operators in Europe. Among its core values are the equity, accessibility and quality of health and healthcare. EPHA’s mission is to promote and protect the health of all people living in Europe and to advocate for greater participation of citizens in health-related policy making at the European level. EPHA’s values and mission tie up closely with those of TIF. Currently, TIF participates through its executive director Dr Androulla Eleftheriou in EPHA’s Executive Board.

Some of the health-related policies focused on and promoted by EPHA include:

  • Promote the introduction and implementation of policies that support and promote health in all areas of EU policy, to protect and improve the health of all people living in Europe.
  • Promote the rights of all citizens to participate in decisions concerning their health, in particular to strengthen the position and voice of patients and healthcare consumers in support of health-related rights in Europe.
  • Ensure cooperation among patients’, consumers’ and citizens’ organisations, public health and health promotion agencies, and organisations representing carers, professionals, academics, and other organisations active in the field of public health at local, national and European levels. Aim: to provide mutual support, and when necessary the formation of coalitions on specific issues.
  • Monitor developments within the European Union in the field of health and provide regular information to members.
  • Influence the institutions of the EU, and other relevant European bodies and international organisations, to promote, monitor and evaluate all policies for their impact on health.
  • Establish a consultative working partnership with European institutions and other relevant international organisations.
