Enerca is a European Union-funded project in the field of public health focused on rare anaemias in Europe. The project aims to create a list of expert reference centres meeting certain quality criteria that will be later formed into European Reference Network (ERN) for rare anaemias.

In October 2008, the European Commission approved Enerca’s funding for a third phase, in which TIF will be work package leader for thalassaemias. An important contribution of Enerca III will be in the area of identifying standards for the recognition of reference centres treating thalassaemia patients – an area in which TIF has established expertise.

The Enerca website is particularly addressed to experts in rare anaemias – health care professionals, research scientists, laboratory technicians and others who deal with the problems of recognising and diagnosing diseases related to blood health. The Extranet part of this page has technical information for experts, and it is hoped that the Forums will become a meeting point for professionals to provide and receive support for their task of caring for patients. The public part of the site is addressed to patients who suffer from rare anaemias, their families and care providers, with basic descriptions of a great number of anaemias. Other useful information will be added as the project progresses.
